Text:1
Cor 4:2 Moreover
it is required
in stewards,
that a man be
found faithful.
Lesson:
Luke 16:1 And he
said also unto
his disciples,
There was a
certain rich
man, which had a
steward; and the
same was accused
unto him that he
had wasted his
goods.
Luke 16:2 And he
called him, and
said unto him,
How is it that I
hear this of
thee? give an
account of thy
stewardship; for
thou mayest be
no longer
steward.
Luke 16:3 Then
the steward said
within himself,
What shall I do?
for my lord
taketh away from
me the
stewardship: I
cannot dig; to
beg I am
ashamed.
Luke 16:4 I am
resolved what to
do, that, when I
am put out of
the stewardship,
they may receive
me into their
houses.
Luke 16:5 So he
called every one
of his lord's
debtors unto
him, and said
unto the first,
How much owest
thou unto my
lord?
Luke 16:6 And he
said, An hundred
measures of oil.
And he said unto
him, Take thy
bill, and sit
down quickly,
and write fifty.
Luke 16:7 Then
said he to
another, And how
much owest thou?
And he said, An
hundred measures
of wheat. And he
said unto him,
Take thy bill,
and write
fourscore.
Luke 16:8
And the lord
commended the
unjust steward,
because he had
done wisely: for
the children of
this world are
in their
generation wiser
than the
children of
light.
Luke 16:9 And I
say unto you,
Make to
yourselves
friends of the
mammon of
unrighteousness;
that, when ye
fail, they may
receive you into
everlasting
habitations.
Luke 16:10
He that is
faithful in that
which is least
is faithful also
in much: and he
that is unjust
in the least is
unjust also in
much.
Luke 16:11 If
therefore ye
have not been
faithful in the
unrighteous
mammon, who will
commit to your
trust the true
riches?

Are we really
what we set
ourselves forth
to be?

As
stewards we must
choose whether
we will uphold
the Master's
standards or
lower them for
the acceptance
of the world.
(note that in
the lesson, the
debtor DIDN'T
expect it.)
Some
have lowered the
standards of:
I. Salvation:
repentance not
demanded.
Mat 3:7 But
when he saw many
of the Pharisees
and Sadducees
come to his
baptism, he said
unto them, O
generation of
vipers, who hath
warned you to
flee from the
wrath to come?
8 Bring forth
therefore fruits
meet for
repentance:
Mat 9:13
But go ye and
learn what that
meaneth, I will
have mercy, and
not sacrifice:
for I am not
come to call the
righteous, but
sinners to
repentance.
Acts
17:30 And the
times of this
ignorance God
winked at; but
now commandeth
all men every
where to repent:
II.
Church
membership:
Church
membership
should be
instant
assurance to all
of one's
sincerity,
integrity,
holiness and
Christian
concern.
[Too
many are saying
the 'church has
no right to
judge me, I'll
judge the
church.]
I
Cor 5:11 But now
I have written
unto you not to
keep company, if
any man that is
called a brother
be a fornicator,
or covetous, or
an idolater, or
a railer, or a
drunkard, or an
extortioner;
with such an one
no not to eat.
I Cor 5:13
But them that
are without God
judgeth.
Therefore put
away from among
yourselves that
wicked person.
III.
Christian
living:
Rom 12:17
Recompense to no
man evil for
evil. Provide
things honest in
the sight of all
men.
A.
The honoring of
God's House:
Mat
21:12 And Jesus
went into the
temple of God,
and cast out all
them that sold
and bought in
the temple, and
overthrew the
tables of the
moneychangers,
and the seats of
them that sold
doves,
13 And said unto
them, It is
written, My
house shall be
called the house
of prayer; but
ye have made it
a den of
thieves.
Eph 3:21
Unto him be
glory in the
church by Christ
Jesus throughout
all ages, world
without end.
Amen.
B.
Concern for and
love for one
another:
I
Jno.13:34 A new
commandment I
give unto you,
That ye love one
another; as I
have loved you,
that ye also
love one
another.
35 By this shall
all men know
that ye are my
disciples, if ye
have love one to
another.
James 5:9
Grudge not one
against another,
brethren, lest
ye be condemned:
behold, the
judge standeth
before the door.
C.
Christian
Morals:
1. How
should we dress?
1 Tim 2:9 In
like manner
also, that women
adorn themselves
in modest
apparel, with
shamefacedness
and sobriety;
not with broided
hair, or gold,
or pearls, or
costly array;
2. How
should we act?
Phil 2:5 Let
this mind be in
you, which was
also in Christ
Jesus:
3. How
should we speak?
Phil 1:27
Only let your
conversation be
as it becometh
the gospel of
Christ: that
whether I come
and see you, or
else be absent,
I may hear of
your affairs,
that ye stand
fast in one
spirit, with one
mind striving
together for the
faith of the
gospel;
James 3:10
Out of the same
mouth proceedeth
blessing and
cursing. My
brethren, these
things ought not
so to be.
James 3:11 Doth
a fountain send
forth at the
same place sweet
water and
bitter?
James 3:12 Can
the fig tree, my
brethren, bear
olive berries?
either a vine,
figs? so can no
fountain both
yield salt water
and fresh.
IV.
Standards of
Doctrinal Purity
and Mission
Endeavor.
Jno
14:15 If ye love
me, keep my
commandments.
Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I
gave all
diligence to
write unto you
of the common
salvation, it
was needful for
me to write unto
you, and exhort
you that ye
should earnestly
contend for the
faith which was
once delivered
unto the saints.
V. Hold
up the Standards
for the Home.
Josh 24:15
And if it seem
evil unto you to
serve the LORD,
choose you this
day whom ye will
serve; whether
the gods which
your fathers
served that were
on the other
side of the
flood, or the
gods of the
Amorites, in
whose land ye
dwell: but as
for me and my
house, we will
serve the LORD.
Eph 6:4 And,
ye fathers,
provoke not your
children to
wrath: but bring
them up in the
nurture and
admonition of
the Lord.
A. The
burden for this
falls upon the
believing mate.
1 Pet 3:1
Likewise, ye
wives, be in
subjection to
your own
husbands; that,
if any obey not
the word, they
also may without
the word be won
by the
conversation of
the wives;
1 Pet 3:2
While they
behold your
chaste
conversation
coupled with
fear.
1 Pet 3:3 Whose
adorning let it
not be that
outward adorning
of plaiting the
hair, and of
wearing of gold,
or of putting on
of apparel;
1 Pet 3:4 But
let it be the
hidden man of
the heart, in
that which is
not corruptible,
even the
ornament of a
meek and quiet
spirit, which is
in the sight of
God of great
price.
1 Pet 3:5 For
after this
manner in the
old time the
holy women also,
who trusted in
God, adorned
themselves,
being in
subjection unto
their own
husbands:
1 Pet 3:6 Even
as Sara obeyed
Abraham, calling
him lord: whose
daughters ye
are, as long as
ye do well, and
are not afraid
with any
amazement.
1 Pet 3:7
Likewise, ye
husbands, dwell
with them
according to
knowledge,
giving honour
unto the wife,
as unto the
weaker vessel,
and as being
heirs together
of the grace of
life; that your
prayers be not
hindered.
