CHRIST
IS SUFFICIENT
Jno 14:1 Let not your heart
be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in
me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it
were not so, I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I
will come again, and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not
whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth,
and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my
Father also: and from henceforth ye know him,
and have seen him.
TEXT: 8 Philip saith
unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it
sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time
with you, and yet hast thou not known me,
Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the
Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the
Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father,
and the Father in me? the words that I speak
unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father
that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the
Father in me: or else believe me for the very
works' sake.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us
a son is given: and the government shall be upon
his shoulder: and his name shall be called
Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Jesus begins by telling them how to have
personal peace of mind by looking forward to the
great things ahead. Their questions and requests
show that they haven’t accepted Him yet, as who
He really is. He tells them that if they have
trouble believing His words, then accept His
works.
Mark 8:23 And he took the blind man by the
hand, and led him out of the town; and when he
had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon
him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as
trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his
eyes, and made him look up: and he was
restored, and saw every man clearly.
I. Phillip’s request is typical of the
lack of understanding of many. He had been
present at the mount of Transfiguration and had
heard the Father’s statement
Jno 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then
came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have
both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
We are not faced with getting men
to ‘see’ Bible doctrines, but getting them to
SEE Jesus!
A. See Him as The God. V 10
The fullness of the Godhead;
Heb.1:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness
of the Godhead bodily.the express image of God.
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had by
himself purged our sins, sat down on the right
hand of the Majesty on high;
When man sees Him thus, he will no
longer argue with His authority, or question Him.
B. See HIM as the redeemer. YOUR faith
was not your redeemer; Christ paid the debt and
God gave you faith to accept HIM.
I Cor 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of
all that which I also received, how that Christ
died for our sins according to the scriptures;
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under heaven
given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God:
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ:
nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in
the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God,
who loved me, and gave himself for me.
1. Seeing this, the lost will not
seek other ways.
2. The saved will not rob Him, for we are not
our own, we’ve been bought with a price.
I Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a
price: therefore glorify God in your body, and
in your spirit, which are God's.
C. Really SEE Him as the
Bridegroom, and the Church will take on a new
meaning.
Jno. 3: 29 He that hath the bride
is the bridegroom: but the friend of the
bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him,
rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's
voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
The concept of the church as an
institution to satisfy the needs of its members
will fail, for we all have different needs and
desires. See it as the Body of Christ with Him
as its head, for the sole purpose of doing HIS
good pleasure, and it takes on a whole new
meaning.
D. See Him as the judge and your present life
becomes a serious responsibility –
II Cor 5: 10 For we must all appear
before the judgment seat of Christ; that every
one may receive the things done in his body,
according to that he hath done, whether it be
good or bad.
E. See Him as the coming King, and
present problems seem small.
II For these reasons, we are admonished
to keep our eyes on Him.
A. Heb. 2: 8 Thou hast put
all things in subjection under his feet. For in
that he put all in subjection under him, he left
nothing that is not put under him. But now we
see not yet all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower
than the angels for the suffering of death,
crowned with glory and honour; that he by the
grace of God should taste death for every man.
As we look around us we see a
chaotic world – there is no comfort there.
SEE Jesus! John 16:33 These
things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye
might have peace. In the world ye shall have
tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have
overcome the world.
B. As you run the race of life,
you’ll get no help from the sidelines. Keep your
eyes on Jesus!
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also
are compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let
us run with patience the race that is set before
us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of
our faith; who for the joy that was set before
him endured the cross, despising the shame, and
is set down at the right hand of the throne of
God.
3 For consider him that endured such
contradiction of sinners against himself, lest
ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
III A single look upon God, will change
one.
A. There is only one safe way to see God
Exo 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my
face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place
by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory
passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of
the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while
I pass by:
23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou
shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not
be seen.
B. We beheld His glory
Jno.1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt
among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as
of the only begotten of the Father,) full of
grace and truth.
Are you safe in the cleft Rock?
IV Come to God in salvation through
Christ
See God in Christ; then you can bring others as
did Phillip.
Jno 12:20 And there were certain
Greeks among them that came up to worship at the
feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was
of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him,
saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again
Andrew and Philip tell Jesus
As did the woman at the well
Jno. 4:29 Come, see a man, which
told me all things that ever I did: is not this
the Christ?
