BEAUTIFUL KING, BOUNTIFUL
LAND
Text: Isa 33:17 Thine eyes
shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is
very far off.
Mat 6:8: Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father
knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Rev 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the
key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the
Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a
seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the
thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed
a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given
unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for
the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not
worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his
mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and
reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand
years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection:
on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of
God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Intro: Pilate said to the Jews, “Behold, your
king..” (Jno. 19:14) Their answer was,
“We have no king but Caesar.” (Jno. 19:15)
From that day to this, they have been under the Caesars
of this world.
It truly was a hopeless sight to behold the scene of the cross and
witness the agony of the Son of God and to hear the mocking voices.
But looking beyond the cross, and even down the corridors of time to
the time of our text, the scene is much different!
I. The beauty of the coming king
A. John saw him and fell as one dead
Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and
heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What
thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches
which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos,
and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto
Laodicea.
12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being
turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the
Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about
the paps with a golden girdle.
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow;
and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a
furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his
mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the
sun shineth in his strength.
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his
right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the
last:
B. Human tongue unable to describe the beauty of the
glorified King.
C. No longer the meek and lowly Lamb of God, but now the
magnificent Lion of the Tribe of Judah!
Rev 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit; and,
behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
Rev 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a
book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is
worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was
able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and
to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of
the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the
book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been
slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the
seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that
sat upon the throne.
D. Beauty derived from His Sonship.
Jno. 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self
with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
E. To our eyes, even the marks of shame: Beautiful!
F. We shall share His beauty.
Psa 27:4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek
after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my
life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in his temple
Psa 90:17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and
establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our
hands establish thou it..
Isa 28:5 In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of
glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,
II The coming Kingdom
A. We long and pray for its coming
Rev 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come
quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
B. To be established personally by Christ.
Mat. 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those
days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her
light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the
heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and
then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the
Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great
glory.
C. We are never told to ‘Win the world for Christ’, but to
win out of the world, men for His kingdom.
Lu 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out
into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my
house may be filled.
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden
shall taste of my supper.
D. ‘Far off’ - Across Jordan , yet but one step.
I Sam 20:3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father
certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he
saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as
the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between
me and death.
E. Now is our salvation nearer
Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is
high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer
than when we believed.
F. Events preceding the Kingdom
1. Signs of Times (Read Matthew 24:3-51)
2. Resurrection: Lu 24:6 He is not here,
but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in
Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful
men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
3. Tribulation: Mat. 23:29 Immediately
after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and
the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from
heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and
then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the
Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great
glory.
III Surety of this coming kingdom
A. Testimony of Enoch
Jude 14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of
these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands
of his saints,
B. Of Job:
Job 19:22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not
satisfied with my flesh?
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed
in a book!
24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for
ever!
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at
the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh
shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not
another; though my reins be consumed within me.:
C. Of David: (and even of God,Himself)
Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou
at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy
footstool.
D. Of Isaiah: See Text(s)
E. Of Matthew:
Again, Read Mat. 24
F. Of Balaam: Num 24:15 And he took up his
parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man
whose eyes are open hath said:
16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the
knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty,
falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh:
there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out
of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the
children of Sheth.
G. This, our Hope
I Cor 15:12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the
dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the
dead?
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not
risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your
faith is also vain.
15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have
testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if
so be that the dead rise not.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in
your sins.
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men
most miserable.
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the
firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of
the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made
alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward
they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the
kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all
rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all
things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which
did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the
Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him,
that God may be all in all.
IV The Danger and consequences of missing out on this
glorious kingdom
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the
thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and
the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the
book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which
were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and
hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged
every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast
into the lake of fire.
