Harmony Of Prophecy
Lesson #11
The Marriage of the Lamb
Lesson Text: Rev 19:7 Let us be
glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for
the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife
hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8 And to her was granted that she should
be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for
the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Rev 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed
are they which are called unto the marriage
supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These
are the true sayings of God.
Intro: When Jesus set His farewell,
memorial supper in the church, he promised that
there would, someday, be another supper.
Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not
drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine,
until that day when I drink it new with you in
my Father's kingdom.
This is it!
I. The fact of the Bride.
A. John the Baptist declared the Truth.
John 3:29 He that hath the bride is the
bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom,
which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth
greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this
my joy therefore is fulfilled.
B. Paul wrote of it to Ephesus and
Corinth.
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the
head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto
Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as
Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for it;
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse
it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a
glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or
any such thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish.
2 Cor 11:1 Would to God ye could bear with
me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with
me.
2 Cor 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly
jealousy: for I have espoused you to one
husband, that I may present you as a chaste
virgin to Christ.
C. John the Revelator wrote of it.
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and
give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb
is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 21:9 And there came unto me one of the
seven angels which had the seven vials full of
the seven last plagues, and talked with me,
saying, Come hither, I will show thee the bride,
the Lamb's wife.
Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say,
Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And
let him that is athirst come. And whosoever
will, let him take the water of life freely.
II. The Identity of the Bride.
A. Paul said he had betrothed the Corinthian
Church to Christ.
2 Cor 11:2 For I am jealous over you with
godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one
husband, that I may present you as a chaste
virgin to Christ.
B. The relationship between Christ and
His Church is described in:
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the
wife, even as Christ is the head of the church:
and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto
Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as
Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for it;
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse
it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a
glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or
any such thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish.
Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as
their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth
himself.
Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own
flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as
the Lord the church:
Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his
flesh, and of his bones.
Eph 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his
father and mother, and shall be joined unto his
wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Eph 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak
concerning Christ and the church.
C. This is NOT the same as the
relationship of sons or children as
described in;
Gal 3:26 For ye are all the children of God
by faith in Christ Jesus.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to
them gave he power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name:
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the
Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of
bondage again to fear; but ye have received the
Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba,
Father.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with
our spirit, that we are the children of God:
D. There is a distinction made.
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs
of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be
that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together.
III. Some Special Privileges of the
Bride.
A. To be received UNTO Christ.
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye
believe in God, believe also in me.
John 14:2 In my Father's house are many
mansions: if it were not so, I would have told
you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again, and receive you unto
myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
John 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way
ye know.
Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself
a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing; but that it should be holy
and without blemish.
B. To be JOINT HEIRS with Him.
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs
of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be
that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together.
C. To reign with Him.
2 Tim 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign
with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
IV. The ultimate glory of the Bride.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new
Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
V. The Time of the wedding.
Rev 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and
give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb
is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
The Tribulation is almost ended and the
Battle of Armageddon is about to take place and
the wedding is finished,
VI. The marriage will be patterned after
the old Hebrew wedding.
